Principal's Message

August 2026

Dear McKinna Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! On behalf of our entire staff, I am excited to welcome you back for another year of learning, growth, and success. We are honored that you have entrusted us with your child's education and look forward to partnering with you throughout the year.

As both a principal and the parent of three daughters, I know how important strong partnerships between home and school are to a child's success. I encourage you to become involved by joining our PTA, participating in the School Site Council (SSC), attending school events, or volunteering on campus. Together, we can help every McKinna Cougar reach their full potential.

McKinna is proud to be a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) school where all students in TK–5 learn in both English and Spanish through our 50/50 instructional model. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

As we begin the school year, please help us keep our campus safe by remembering the following:

  • Student supervision begins at 7:40 a.m. Please do not drop students off before this time.
  • The front parking lot will remain closed during dismissal to ensure student safety. Please park on nearby streets or use the back parking lot and walk to the front gate to pick up your child.
  • Keep your emergency contacts current. Notify the office of any changes to your address, phone number, or emergency contacts. Students will only be released to authorized individuals with a valid photo ID.

Important Dates

  • First Day of School: Wednesday, August 19, 2026
  • School Begins: 8:10 a.m.
  • Regular Dismissal: TK/K – 2:25 p.m. | Grades 1–5 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday Minimum Days (beginning August 26): TK/K – 12:25 p.m. | Grades 1–5 – 1:25 p.m.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to an amazing school year filled with learning, friendships, and Cougar Pride!

Sincerely,

Erika Ragan Principal McKinna Elementary School
